ELIZABETH BLOIS

Elizabeth Blois

After being away for six years Betty returned to work with us in 2006. In 2000 Betty wowed everyone with her home made bread and freshly baked goods and she continues to do just that! Betty wows guests with her finer dishes but she is no stranger to making good hearty meals; she has worked in a number of exploration camps in northern Canada throughout her cooking career. Her good sense of humour, personality and fantastic cooking skills make it a pleasure to spend time in the kitchen!

BRYAN SULLIVAN


Bryan Sullivan

Bryan has been a member of the Canadian Forces for over 25 years, of that he spent 4 years at the Canadian Forces Survival and Rescue School teaching land, sea and arctic survival to military aviators. As an aviator by trade, an avid fisherman and outdoor enthusiast, Bryan brings many skills to the Peterson team. Bryan joined us in the summer of 2006. He lives in Yellowknife with his wife Mary and their four sons.


GARY SIMS

Gary Sims

Long-time fishing guide Gary Sims spends his summers at the lodge, in pursuit of the Point Lake Monster. In the winter months, he works on the ice road; this road is built specifically to transport materials to the diamond mines, it winds over lakes and portages over 300 km north of Yellowknife. Gary is a retired member of the RCMP; he was stationed in the Northwest Territories for 20 years and now resides in southern Manitoba with his wife Roslyn. He spends time with his daughter Melanie and his grand children who lives close by. His son Mike, who lives in Alberta, also guided at Point Lake. Gary has a great sense of humour and is always willing to go the extra mile. He has become famous for his love of Cheese Whiz.

Brent Murphy

Brent is an avid fisherman and long time resident of Canada’s North having lived in the Northwest Territories since 1996.  He has also spent time in Nunavut and the Yukon Territory.  His summers have been spent taking friends and family on fishing trips within the Northwest Territories.  Brent is a geologist by trade who migrated into the environmental industry several years ago.  He was employed as the Chief Environmental officer for the EKATI Diamond Mine for three years but in July he joined Alaska Gold Company, as their Manager of Environment and Sustainability.  This is Brent’s first year at the lodge and he is looking forward to making new friendships.  Presently Brent resides in Yellowknife with his wife, Mary Lou and his children Brendan and Natalie as well as his two Labrador Retrievers, Max and Scully.

 


ROBERT STITT

Robert Stitt

For the past 30 years Robert has been involved with wildlife as a Wildlife Technician and as a Fish & Wildlife Biologist. He currently owns and operates Patten River Camp in Northern Ontario where he guides for grouse and woodcock.  In the winter Robert teaches outdoor Education with Niagara College.  His interest include hunting, fishing, nature photography and raising Canadian Eskimo Dogs.  We are pleased to welcome Robert to our Point Lake Team this year. 

 


HUNTING GUIDES

PAUL JONES

Paul Jones (pictured on the right with guest)

Paul Jones has been guiding for Peterson's since 1987. Paul is a fantastic guide, known as a jack-of-all-trades and for his ability to out walk his guests, even with 100 lbs of meat in his pack. Born and raised in southern Ontario Paul came to the Northwest Territories in 1980 to work as a radio announcer for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Paul has held a variety of positions as public servant, either as an assistant to elected politicians or public affairs/communications roles. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Paul has traveled thousands of miles throughout the North by dogsled and boat.  During 2003/2004, he put nearly 4,000 miles under the keel of his sailboat while traveling from Vancouver Island to Mexico.  Paul works for a diamond exploration company in Yellowknife.

 


RAY BRAZEAU

Ray Brazeau

Ray began working at Peterson's in 1992. Better known as 'Julio', Ray is often requested as a guide from our repeat guests. He has a zest for life and great sense of humour. Ray works as at Harley's Hard Rock Saloon in Yellowknife. He has lived in Yellowknife since 1977, where his two children, Cole and Mickey attend school. Ray loves to cook, smoke fish, make jerky and homemade jam, in addition to playing hockey and guiding. His homemade jam and antipasta are excellent!

 


GRANT ST. GERMAINE

Grant St. Germaine

Grant has been working as a hunting guide at Peterson’s since 1999. He has worked for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for 30 years and is currently stationed in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. Grant has lived in Newfoundland, Alberta and in Nunavut. He has been married to Wendy since 1977 and they have two children Geoff who is with the Canadian Forces and Ashley who is also a member of the RCMP in Alberta. Grant enjoys hunting, fishing, boating, snowmobiling, camping, hiking and shooting. Some of his highlights include taking four bighorn rams and taking muskox with the Inuit from Kugluktuk in -40°F temperatures.

 


DAVID ABERNETHY

David Abernethy on the right with Guest  

Raised in Canada's North, Dave has a respect and enthusiasm for the outdoors. He enjoys spending time with his family at their cabin on the Ingraham Trail, partaking in outdoor activities such as sledding, fishing, hunting and tinkering on small engines. In 1989, Dave graduated from the Renewable Resources Technology Program at Aurora College. In 1993, he moved to Arviat, NT where he held various positions as a Wildlife technician, Wildlife Officer and Acting Manager of the Wildlife and Environment Protection Department. Dave is currently working as an Environmental Technician at BHPs Ekati diamond mine. In 2004, he was involved in collaring caribou with satellite collars and he has written a story on the experience. EGAN WUTH

Egan Wuth

Egan has worked as a hunting guide with Peterson's since 1993. A former resident of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Egan has spent 30 years of his life in northern Canada. Now residing in Fort St. John, BC with his wife, Vivian, and two daughters, Egan is employed as an Operations Inspector with the British Columbia Government Oil & Gas Commission. While living in Yellowknife, Egan was employed by the Federal Government as a Resource Management Officer. His hobbies and skills include: hunting, trapping, fishing, competitive pistol shooting, gunsmithing and sewing.

 


CHAD PETERSON

Chad Peterson

Chad is integral part of the family business. Growing up in the Northwest Territories, he spent a lot of time fishing and hunting. Chad has become an excellent outdoorsman. He has been guiding at Point Lake since 1996 and involved in many aspects of the family business. He graduated from British Columbia Institute of Technology in 1995 and now works for First Air as an Aviation Maintenance Engineer. He resides in Yellowknife with his partner Dawn, who both enjoy spending their free time outdoors. Chad has traveled all over the world with his job, to places such as Bolivia, Columbia, Japan and Holland. Chad hunts for caribou and moose each fall, and has become renowned for his smoked fish.

 


BRYCE LIDDELL

Bryce Liddel

Bryce is passionate about hunting and fishing and like the Peterson family he and his wife, Monica, have been able to make a living at something they thoroughly enjoy! Owner and operator of Iskwatikan Lake Lodge since 1996, they offer self-guided fishing and sightseeing trips on Iskwatikan Lake. Bryce also outfits for black bear and whitetail bear near Candle Lake, Saskatchewan. A former crop sprayer, Bryce enjoys flying his guests to fishing hot spots or to some of the natural wonders around the lake. In his spare time he enjoys snowmobiling, motorcycling and traveling. His willingness to go the extra mile, his friendly character and knowledge of fishing and hunting are an asset to our lodge. We welcomed Bryce to the Point Lake Team in 2006.

 


ERIC HAMELIN

Eric Hamelin

Eric started guiding at Point Lake in 2006. He is an outdoor fanatic and spends most of his spare time hunting or fishing. In 2000, Eric graduated from UNBC in Prince George, BC with a Bachelors in Wildlife Biology. He currently resides in Calgary, AB and works for an environmental consultant company as a wildlife biologist. His work takes him throughout western Canada as well as the Northwest Territories. No adventure is too big or too small for this outdoorsmen! Eric’s other hobbies include playing a variety of team sports, shooting, camping and hiking the Rocky Mountains.

 


JOHN MILNER

John Milner

John is another member of our staff who is employed full time with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.  Nine of his 27 years of service have been in the north; presently John is working and resides in Inuvik, Northwest Territories with his family.  We were happy to have John join the Peterson team in 2007.  He has a wealth of experience in the outfitting business both in management and guiding.  John is an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoor enthusiast.

 



OWNER/OPERATOR/GUIDE:

JIM PETERSON

Jim Peterson

Better known as "Boss Man!" Jim was born and raised in Northern Ontario where he developed a love for the outdoors at an early age. For 18 years, he worked as a paramedic with the Canadian Armed Forces. In 1979, Jim and his family were transferred to Yellowknife, where he fell in love with the north. He decided to leave the Forces and was honourably released in 1982. Fulfilling his life long dream Jim started the 'J' Group Ltd. a company that taught government employees, nurses and the private sector wilderness survival training. In 1984, Jim began outfitting, the beginning of Peterson's Point Lake Lodge. His wife, Margaret, of 40 years, daughter, Amanda and son, Chad are all involved in the family business.
